Smitten Polish – Glass Elevator 2

I have a quickie post for you today of an indie polish that I purchased a while ago from Smitten Polish.   This is Glass Elevator… it has a milky white base and is filled with green and light blue micro glitter and light blue hexes.  This one has been on my shelf for at least a couple of months, and there wasn’t any separation or glitter sinking in the bottle.  Application was a breeze, though it took three coats to get full coverage.  I used one coat of Seche Vite on top. Today was a bit hectic and I didn’t have much time to spend on my nails, so I was a little sloppier than usual… but the color is gorgeous!

KB Shimmer Swatches 3

I purchased a few KB Shimmer polishes from my wishlist this week and I’m so in LOVE with them!  I had to try them all on this morning, so I have swatches of all three.  They all applied very smoothly and evenly, and I didn’t have to go fishing for glitter.  (Unfortunately my nails are now super short… ugh.  I had two bad breaks and had to cut them all down.)

Anyway… on to the swatches.  Each manicure is 3 coats of polish with 1 thick coat of Seche Vite top coat, which is the best for taming glitters in my opinion.

This is Don’t Teal Anyone… my favorite of the lot.  The color combo is so awesome and the blue gel base has great coverage.  I have this on both hands right now and plan to leave on for a few days.

This is Oh Splat!  I’ve had an obsession lately with polishes that have a white base and different colored glitters.  Of all the ones I’ve tried lately, this is my new favorite.  I feel like I say that every time I try one, but I swear this is the one!  LOL  Again, the base had very even coverage.  It was pretty opaque with just two coats, but I applied 3 coats in all of these swatches just for consistency.

And this is Toucan Touch This.  The green base in this polish was much more sheer than the others, but it also applied great.  It has another great color combo.  Next time I might try adding this on top of another color to see what it would look like.

Emily de Molly – It’s Complicated 2

I’m in love with all of the swatches over at Emily de Molly’s Etsy store.  I found this brand a while ago and decided to purchase a bottle to try out before I buy more.  Now I’m wishing I had bought more because I paid a lot of money to have this shipped to the states from Australia, and it took almost 2 months to get here because of customs.  She did warn me that it would take that long, and I was totally cool with it.  I figured I would forget about it and have a surprise in the mail one day… but I didn’t forget.  I eagerly checked my mail every day hoping it would arrive.  The good news is that it looks like Llarowe is going to start carrying this brand, so hopefully it will be easier to get in the states.

Here are my swatches of It’s Complicated.  This polish has a white base and is filled with small purple and silver hexes, large black hexes and some triangular shapes.  There may be more in here that I didn’t notice too.  I love the formula and the way it applied.

Woodsie’s Wish by Amy’s Nail Boutique 1

Last weekend I won a prize in a giveaway that was hosted by I Feel Polished!  Thank you, Heather!  I won the two mini polishes from Amy’s Nail Boutique, Woodie’s Wish and Sophie.  Today I tried out Woodsie’s Wish for the first time.  I was super excited to win this one because my favorite polishes lately have been whites and other “milky” polishes  with different colored glitter.  I love glitter polishes that can be built up so that the glitter looks layered and doesn’t just lay on top of the polish.  You can see lots of these on my Pinterest wishlist board.

I love the end result with this polish, but it did take 4 coats to get the opacity that I wanted.  I wore it out to dinner tonight and my boyfriend and the waitress both complimented it.  :)

This is Woodsie’s Wish with just 2 coats – you can see there’s still quite a bit of opacity, but it does build up nicely.

Gelish French Manicure 11

This is the easiest way I have found to achieve a nice French Manicure with Gelish.  I do skip a few steps in my instructions below such as the prep so be sure to read my full guide on how to apply Gelish polish if you’re new to gel polish manicures.

Gelish French Manicure - Step 1

Step 1: (After applying your foundation of course…) Freehand paint the tips of your nails with a white polish. I used Gelish Sleek White here.  Paint from one side to the other and don’t be afraid of getting polish on your fingers – we’ll clean that up next.

Step 2: Dip a brush in alcohol or acetone and use it to clean up your lines and to remove any excess polish that got onto your fingers. Once the tips are nice and clean, cure the polish in your UV light. (Remember to do the clean up BEFORE you cure!)

Step 3: This is what they look like after curing. If you like you can now apply a coat of sheer polish over top of your french tips, or you can simply apply your Gelish Top It Off and cure them in the UV light again.

Ta da! I added a layer of Champagne which has a nice light shimmer, and then completed the manicure with my top coat.

And a bonus! I added a lacy stamp to the tips.  (This pic was taken in natural light the following day)
