Couture High Maintenance & Glam Squad 0

It’s been a busy week. My daughter’s HS prom is this weekend, and I have a friend coming in town and a wedding to attend on Sunday so I won’t have much time for swatching. I will be doing a French manicure for my daughter and I have some nail art planned to match the dress I’m wearing to the wedding, so you can expect some pictures of those next week.

In the meantime, I have a couple of Couture Gel Nail Polish swatches to share with you.  Couture is a DIY brand meant for at-home use.  I found that their starter kit is available on Amazon.com at a discount, though I don’t see the individual colors sold there.

These colors are from the Couture Spring 2013 collection.  Application and soak-off were a breeze. The shimmery silver one is called High Maintenance. I wore this for a few days and loved it. It goes with everything and has just the right amount of sparkle for me.

The color below is Glam Squad. This one is the perfect combination of purple and pink. It looks pink next to purples, and purple next to pinks. I really like the uniqueness of the color. My lightbox washed the color out of these photos a bit, and it looks a little more pink than it actually was. I snapped a quick pic of this in regular lighting to try to capture the color a little better.

Ink Infamous Swatch 9

Who’s ready for another Ink Soak Off Gel Polish swatch??? This is #77 Infamous.  It’s a pretty light pink with a frosty finish.  In real life it’s actually slightly more pink than it appears in the pictures, but the color got a little washed out in the lightbox.  I think this is a great neutral color, and it works well with my skin tone.  I’m really loving these Inks!

You may notice that I created a new category for Ink swatches, and there’s a new link to them in the dropdown menu on the navigation bar above.  I did some shopping online for more Inks yesterday and I had a really hard time finding swatches other than the little color bubbles that the manufacturer shows.  I like seeing colors on someone’s nails before I buy, so I guess I may have to be a guinea pig for everyone and make the swatches!  LOL

Gelish High Voltage Swatch 4

Are you ready for another glittery Gelish polish?! This is High Voltage – a pink jelly base that’s loaded with glitter.  I feel like such a girl… I can’t get enough glitter right now.  LOL This is three coats of High Voltage and it applied very evenly.  I’m working my way through these Gelish swatches.  At this rate I might have the entire line swatched by the end of the year!  I heard there will be some new summer colors coming out so hopefully I’ll know more soon.

I’m also working on some gel polish FAQ’s.  Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try to address them in a post this week.

Gelish Carnival Hangover Swatch 3

This is Carnival Hangover by Gelish. All of the swatches that I’ve seen for this polish have looked more purple, but mine looks like a bright pink.  I’m not sure if this one might be a color changer and changed in the bottle before I opened it.  I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago, so it hasn’t been sitting around here for too long.  Hmm… I do love the color though. It’s an awesome shade for spring/summer and I’m sure I’ll get some wear out of it.  You can also see this color in my recent zig zag skittlette manicure.

Sunday Swatch Spam: Gelish Pinks! 4

These are a few shades of pink by Gelish that I haven’t posted about yet!

First up is Passion, one of the more popular Gelish colors.  It’s a nice bright, cheery pink… it’s darker than Make A Difference, but lighter than Gossip Girl.  Passion applied with ease and only took two coats for full coverage.

This is Pink Smoothies, a very light, creamy pink.  This is one of my mom’s favorites, but it’s not really my cup of tea since I tend to go for bolder colors.  This one takes three coats to get full coverage, and it shrinks from the edges a bit.

This is Tutti Frutti, a shimmery pink.  This color also shrinks from the edges a bit (which is fairly common with Gelish), but it provides full coverage in just two coats.  This one doesn’t look anything like the swatches that the manufacturer shows.

Julep New Year’s Mystery Box Swatches 4

Well as you can see I just couldn’t wait to try out the new polishes that I got in my Julep mystery box.  I thought I would just try out one or two today, but I ended up swatching all five of them!  I’m really pleased with this box… all of the colors are gorgeous.

I’m going to start with the polish that I thought was my least favorite in the bottle, but turned out to be one of my favorites once applied.  This is Lauren, a HOT pink with a creme finish.  I’m normally not a fan of bright polishes, but I really like this.  It applied very smoothly and was pretty opaque with two coats, but I applied a third coat for good measure.

This is Sienna, a gorgeous shimmery gold.  This one also had a great formula and only required two coats.

This is Cindy, an emerald green with gold micro-glitter.  I wish I had this one before Christmas, it would be great for some holiday nail art.  :)   The little micro-glitters sure did get all over the place during removal though!  It took a bit of work to get rid of it all.

This is Georgia, a shimmery peach.

And last, but not least, this is a mystery color with no name.  This one has a semi-clear base with a grey/black tint and is loaded with different sized glitters.  There are teeny tiny black glitters, and then larger orange and other metallic glitters.  This one reminds me a bit of Halloween.  I applied one coat of the mystery polish over two coats of OPI Black Onyx.

Pretty Serious – Claris & Dream Delight 2

These are the other two polishes that I recently purchased from Pretty Serious, Claris & Dream Delight.  I have to say that this may be the best quality indie brand I have tried to date.  These polishes all applied flawlessly and just really exceeded my expectations.  Claris is a shimmery, pink jelly polish that is stunning in the light.  It had good opacity with just two coats, but I applied three for good measure.  And Dream Delight… WOW!  This is the most amazing glitter polish I have ever used.  It was almost completely opaque with just one coat and the glitter was distributed perfectly.  I can’t wait to use this one again… it’s perfect for the next Polish Days “bling” theme.

China Glaze Fifth Avenue 1

I recently purchased several China Glaze polishes that were on sale. I’ve heard from many people that the Romantique collection is great for stamping, so I grabbed several shades from that collection. Below are swatches of Fifth Avenue, which is a lovely dusty rose color. I stamped it with Passion and BM314 stamping plate from the 2012 BM plate collection. I’m actually having some problems with these plates and am talking with BM about getting a replacement set. The impressions in my plates seem to be too shallow and I’m having a hard time picking up images. This is one of the good ones of the bunch, and you can see that the stamp quality isn’t great. In person it doesn’t look horrible, but you can really see the imperfections when it’s magnified.

Sophie by Amy’s Nail Boutique 0

This is the second polish that I won in the I Feel Polished 300 Likes Giveaway, called Sophie by Amy’s Nail Boutique.  The base for this polish was very sheer so I layered it over two different shades of pink to see what it would look like.  This is two coats of Sophie on to of 2 coats of OPI Pink Friday (light pink), and L.A. Colors Pink Chiffon (dark pink).

I’m not as crazy about this one because as I mentioned before, I really prefer glitters that have colored bases and can be built up better.

Gelish 2012 Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Collection – Limited Edition 9

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Gelish released a limited edition Breast Cancer Awareness collection with some gorgeous pinks.  I did a mani using all three colors, and also swatched each of the new colors.  The quality of this collection is much better than their last release (House of Gelish), which had lots of issues with wrinkling and curing.  These all went on very smoothly and only required two coats each.  The lighter two shades have a very slight shimmer, and the darkest shade is nice and creamy.  The names of the colors are Take Action, Make a Difference, and Less Talk.
