Shimmer Polish – Mary 3

My manicure today is what I call a jelly sandwich or glitter sandwich… a coat of glitter polish between two coats of colored polish.  The glitter layer is Shimmer Polish “Mary” which has red, black and silver glitter in a clear base with a red tint.  I combined this with China Glaze Seduce Me, and topped it off with two coats of Seche Vite.  I love how this turned out!  You can see more examples of Mary in Shimmer Polish’s Etsy store – it looks great on top of red too!

Gelish Year of the Snake Collection 2013 5

Gelish Year of the Snake 2013 Collection Swatches

I’m excited to share with you the Year of the Snake Collection from Gelish.  Meet the King and Lady in Red, were designed specifically to celebrate the 2013 New Year.  The Chinese New Year officially begins on February 10th after the New moon in Aquarius.  This 2013 year of Snake is meant for steady progress and attention to detail.

Lady in Red is a vivacious creamy red.  The formula was great and only two coats were required to achieve full coverage.

Meet the King is a luxurious, royal gold. This one also only require two coats and applied flawlessly.

Gelish Sizzling Summer Nights Collection Swatches 5

Gelish Sizzling Summer Nights Collection Swatches

Yes, I know it’s the middle of winter (at least it is here in the US), but today I have the Gelish Sizzling Summer Collection to share with you. These polishes are all “showstoppers” in my opinion! I can’t believe I waited this long to try these colors… they are stunning!  These all had full coverage with just two coats and applied flawlessly.

This is Sunrise and the City, a gorgeous duochrome.  It really does remind me of a sunrise with the burning shades of orange.

This is Shake Your Money Maker, a sparkly olive green.  I didn’t expect to like this one, but once it was applied I LOVED it!

This is Showstopping! Wow… this one totally blew me away. I took pics of this one in the lightbox and under an OttLite to try to show you how shiny and sparkly it is, but the photos still don’t do this color justice. Love, love, love!

Gelish Layering: Bella’s Vampire and Good Gossip 2

One of the great things about gel polish is that you can create new shades by layering two different colors.  Today I was playing around and layered Good Gossip over top of Bella’s Vampire and the result was stunning!  My light box totally drowned out the sparkles in Good Gossip, so I had to take this shot with a desk lamp to try to show you how gorgeous these two colors are layered together.

Gelish Good Gossip layered over Bella's Vampire

Good Gossip is a very sparkly red glitter polish, and Bella’s Vampire is a creamy dark purple.  Here are my swatches of Bella’s Vampire before adding the red sparkles.  Bella’s Vampire is very close in color to Diva, but it has a slightly redder tint and I actually like the formula of Bella’s Vampire much better.  It didn’t pull back from the edges and was very easy to apply.

Blood Splatter Nails 0

I’ve been wanting to try splatter nails, so why not create some gruesome blood splatter nails for Halloween! My inspirations for this manicure are Wacky Laki’s Bloody Nails, Chalkboard Nails’ Spooky Splatter Nails, and the YouTube video that’s embedded below that shows the splatter technique using a straw.

Love Affair – OPI Affair in Red Square 0

I needed a good red, so I purchased An Affair in Red Square by OPI.  This shade of red and my awesome date night this weekend inspired me to do some love themed nail art.  ;)

I used OPI Black Onyx for the tips of the red nails, and the striped nails have OPI Alpine Snow as the base and then I used a black nail striper for the stripes.  I’m actually not real happy with how uneven the stripes are, so I think next time I attempt stripes I’ll do the tape method instead.  I also used my favorite top coat for nail laquers, Seche Vite.
