Ink Calypso Swatch & More Shade Shifter Fun 2

I’ve been wearing Ink Calypso for a couple of days, and today I decided to play with Orly Shade Shifter again and turn my teal mani into some cool color changing nail art.  I started with 2 coats of Calypso, then applied 2 coats of Orly Shade Shifter.  I applied one thin coat of Gelish Izzy Wizzy Let’s Get Busy for a blue/purple duochrome glitter effect.  Next, I used a dotting tool to add some flowers and dots on top, and then topped everything off with my Gelish top coat.  What do you think???

You can view my video demo of Orly Shade Shifter here.  To use it, you apply two coats of Shade Shifter over your base color (curing after each coat), and then apply your top coat.  It makes your nails black when they are cold and goes clear when they are warm to show the color underneath.  And sometimes you can see the transition as seen in the photo below.

Ink Denim & Zippers 1

My friend Janie sent me a few new gel polishes from my wishlist for helping her out on a project. Thanks, girlie!! This is Ink Denim, and the name kind of says it all.  It’s a shimmery dark blue that resembles a shade of denim.  I’ve been wearing this for a couple of days now and have received several compliments on it.  I’m really loving the Ink brand and can’t wait to try more of their colors.  I still have a couple more untried ones on my shelf.

Today I remembered that I had some zipper water decals and thought what better to pair with denim?  :)   I applied a regular nail polish base over top of my gel manicure, painted on some colored triangles and applied my decals.   I then topped everything off with Seche Vite.  I’m sure the art won’t last long this way, but you know I’ll be ready to change up my mani soon again anyway!

Ink – When In Blue Swatch 10

Here’s another Ink brand polish for you called When In Blue.  I’m loving the gorgeous shimmer finish on this one.  Ink is really good with these glowing shimmery finishes.

Indigo Illumination Gel Polish #5 – Duochrome 6

I just purchased five duochrome gel polishes from the Indigo Illumination line. OMG! These things are freaking fantastic – the duochrome effects are to die for. They’re so hard to capture in pictures, so I had to take a short video to show you how the colors change based on the lighting. I just moved my light back and forth above my hand and you can see how dramatic the color change is.

This is #5 (Saturn), and it shifts from teal blue to a deep purple. This gel polish is NOT the soak off variety… it has to be filed off if you apply it by itself. If you use this polish I highly recommend wearing undies under it (use a soak off polish underneath). I applied Saturn over top of two coats of Gelish My Favorite Accessory.

These were purchased directly from Indigo as part of a large group order.  Shipping to the states is rather high, so it’s helpful if you have other people to go in on an order with you.

Update:  These polishes do not cure with some LED lamps, UV is the way to go.

Glitter Gradient Manicure 8

Oooohhhh… glitter!  I’m in love with loose glitter right now.  I just got a bunch of holographic glitters, so expect some more glitter manis from me in the future.  To achieve this gradient look I first applied my Gelish foundation, and then applied Ink When in Blue on just the tips (and the whole accent nail).  Then I took a dry makeup brush and dipped it in glitter and patted it onto the tips of my nails and pulled it downward creating the gradient effect.  I topped it off with two coats of Gelish Top It Off to get a completely smooth finish.  Check out Artsyfartsy Crafts on Ebay for loose glitter.

If you’re interested in seeing how this glitter gradient was achieved, I added a video tutorial.

This first picture was taken in my lightbox.

The next two photos were taken under my OttLite, in attempt to better show off the shininess and holographic glitter effects.

Gelish Ocean Wave Swatch and Blue Comparison 1

This is Gelish Ocean Wave, a very fun, bright blue!  I applied three coats for full opacity.  Below you can see a comparison of this color with some of the other dark blue shades from Gelish.

Ink SOG Gradient Manicure with Paisley 8

I tried a new brand of soak off gel (SOG) polish today called Ink by Glam and Glits.  I wanted to try some colors that are springy since I’m soooo ready for some warmer weather!  I started off with three coats of Ink Lime Sorbet, which is a lovely soft green color.  I then sponged a teal blue color called Ink Calypso onto the tips.  After applying and curing my top coat, I applied a paisley stamp using Bundle Monster plate BM315 and Konad black polish.  I then applied another thin layer of top coat.  I used my Gelish foundation and Top It Off.

Here is Ink Lime Sorbet all by itself before I applied the gradient.  It’s actually slightly warmer in person.  I thought this was what Gelish Mint of Spring was going to look like, but it’s actually blue and not green at all…. so I had to seek out a light green, and I’m totally loving this!

And this is the gradient before the stamp.  I just used a makeup sponge to apply Ink Calypso onto the tips.  I couldn’t get the opacity that I wanted, but I still like how it turned out.  :)

Shimmer Polish – Christina 3

I have a gorgeous Shimmer Polish to share with you today called Christina.  This polish is a clear base loaded with different sized green and fuchsia glitter.  This glitter in this polish is very dense which makes it layer beautifully.   In the swatches below I applied three coats of Christina and two coats of Seche Vite over top to give it a smooth finish.  This polish could also be applied in one layer over top of a solid color.  I think it would look awesome over black or a dark teal.  Christina is a real stunner!  It reminds me of a shimmery mermaid tail.

Cult Nails Manipulative Nail Art 2

I’ve had my eye on several polishes from Cult Nails and they had an awesome sale on their limited edition polishes on New Years Eve. They were $8 each so I snagged a bunch of them before their prices went up (along with a couple other non-LE polishes)! They recently announced that their prices would jump from $10 to $12 a bottle in the new year, so this sale was a great opportunity to stock up. This was my first time using polish from Cult Nails and I think it’s safe to say I’m now hooked… I’m joining the Cult!  I swatched each of the colors that I purchased on a wheel first to test them out, and they all had great formulas and applied flawlessly.

For my first Cult manicure, I started with two coats of Manipulative. After it dried I blocked part of each nail with a triangular shaped piece of scotch tape, and then applied Nevermore and I Got Distracted on the exposed nail. The design was topped off with two coats of Seche Vite to smooth out the lines.

Manipulative is a light blue with a shimmery finish. Nevermore is a glossy black… a must for every polish collection. And I Got Distracted has a black base and is loaded with holographic micro-glitter and green glitter. This one is a real stunner! You can really see the holo effects in the blurry picture below.

Gelish Up In The Blue 3

This is Gelish’s Up In The Blue – a soft, creamy cornflower blue. I really like this color, but it took 3 coats to get full opacity. I might try to do some stamping on top in the next day or two if I have the time.
