Yellow

Yellow & Grey Feather Skittlette Manicure 2

I was inspired to create some nail art this weekend to compliment a dress that I wore to a wedding. I wore a light grey and white floral dress from The Limited that has a little yellow ribbon around the waist.  The pop of yellow really made me want to do something fun with that color.  I was at the craft store last week and saw a bag of spotted craft feathers, and the yellow caught my eye and gave me the idea to attempt a feather accent.  I ended up with a skittlette of stripes, stamps, feathers, and glitter!

The colors used in this manicure are Couture Tres Chic, Gelish Cashmere Kind of Gal and Gelish Emerald Dust.

  • My index finger has three coats of Tres Chic, and I used nail art striping tape and Cashmere Kind of Gal to create some diagonal stripes.
  • My middle finger has two coats of Cashmere Kind of Gal, and a stamped design using Bundle Monster plate BM314 and Konad white stamping polish.  I topped it off with one coat of Emerald Dust for some sparkle.
  • My ring finger also has two coats of Cashmere Kind of Gal, and then I applied a feather on top.  To do this I applied a layer of Gelish Top It Off, and then stuck the feather on top and pressed it down so that it was flush with my nail.  I cured it in my LED light for 45 seconds then used scissors to trim off the bulk of the excess feather and a nail file to clean up the edges.  I applied one more coat of Top It Off and cured again.
  • My pinky finger just has three coats of Tres Chic and one coat of Emerald Dust, and my thumb has two coats of Cashmere Kind of Gal and one coat of Emerald Dust.

Couture Tres Chic & Color Blocked Nail Art 3

I never thought I would wear yellow nail polish, but in the past month or so I have tried a few shades of yellow and the one I have to show you today is my favorite of all so far.  This is Tres Chic from Couture… a buttery yellow with a creme finish. I wore this for a day or so before deciding to add some nail art to it.  I did some color blocking with nail art striping tape, and made a short video to demonstrate the technique (below).  The colors used for the accents are Couture High Maintenance, Million $ Tweet, Teal the Show and Glam Squad.  I love how this turned out and can’t wait to use these Couture colors again.

Ink Pharaoh Swatch 8

When I placed my recent order for Ink gel polishes I realized that my collection is lacking the color yellow. To fill the void I purchased Pharaoh, which has a gorgeous shimmer finish like many of the Ink polishes. I have to say that the color is a bit out of my comfort zone. I’m not sure that it looks good on me all on it’s own, but I think I could probably do something really fun and funky nail art with it!

The more I try these Ink brand polishes, the more I love them. They apply like butter – really, no issues with thickness or wrinkling at all. And they seem to soak off very easily. If you watched my recent video about how to remove gel polish, that was an Ink brand polish that I had on and you can see that it came off almost in one sheet with very little scraping needed.

Candeo Colors Jellybean 0

I recently purchased a couple of indie polishes from my wishlist at Llarowe, and today I have a swatch of Candeo Colors Jellybean.  When I saw this it reminded me of spring and Easter… it’s just so cheerful!  It has a pale yellow base with pink, blue and purple hex glitters, and some pink micro-glitter.  The yellow base isn’t nearly as bright as the swatches that I’ve seen… I expected it to be much more yellow.  It layers beautifully – this swatch is three coats, but it was almost completely opaque with just two coats.  And of course I topped it off with Seche Vite.

Dare to Wear Colorful French Tips with Stickers 0

Today I tried out a couple of new Dare to Wear polishes that I recently purchased.  They are a bright yellow called Yellow Twist, and a bright blue called Pillow Talk.

I started with three coats of Yellow Twist to get a nice solid yellow base.  Normally I would only apply two coats, but I just didn’t get the coverage that I wanted with two.  I also applied one coat of China Glaze top coat.

After letting this dry for several minutes, I applied a French manicure tip guide to each of my fingers (purchased at this ebay store).  Since the stickers can sometimes be extra sticky and peel off your base coat, I first stuck it to my hand a few times to get rid of some of the stickiness before applying it to my nail.  I also like to clip off the ends of the sticker after I apply it… not really necessary, but I do it anyway.  Then I applied Pillow Talk to the tips, and then carefully removed the stickers.  After letting them dry for several minutes, I applied another layer of top coat.
