VIDEO: Nail Art with CND Additives
I took a little hiatus from making videos, but I finally have a new one for you! I documented the new techniques that I recently learned using CND Additives. In this this video you’ll learn how to create a gradient, how I did my recent zebra stripe and polka dot nail art, and a new watercolor effect that I just picked up. It turned out a bit long, but I wanted to combine all of the additive techniques in one video rather than stopping and starting to create separate ones. Let me know if you have any questions!

They look amazing. I especially like the stripes and the dot effects. The problem is, I might have to buy some now! Have you tried using Gelish simple sheer for the dots/stipes rather than TIO? Might make removal easier.
Also, have you tried using additives with stencils? I have some stencils I tried with acrylic paint and the paint just seeps under the stencil and makes a blob. Although, I wonder how you remove the excess without smudging the design.

I would love to try this out. Do you polish the acrylic nail the glacier ink white color first? Is there a step before that?
Yes you polish the white color first and cure, and then add the additives into the tacky layer of the gel polish. I don’t use or work with acrylics, so I don’t know about applying over acrylic.
Hi Andrea, I just found your blog and love it! I have a question about the zebra print with additives. I’m confused..you never put a top coat over the white gel poilsh..just a top coat on zebra stripes..did I miss something? I’m sorry, new to gels..I’ve been doing strictly acrylics for 18 years and I’m slowly switching to gel polishes. Thank you so much:)
Right, I used the tacky layer of the white polish to adhere the additives. I used top coat to create the zebra stripes, and then I applied a layer of top coat over the entire nail after wiping off the excess additives. I’m not sure if I showed that on the video, or if I just mentioned it at the end.

Hi I tried all three designs in the video and the stripes and dots came out well but every time I tried leaving the additives on the nail and just top coating like in the vid when it came to wiping the tacky layer most of the additives came off too leaving blotchy patches. What did I do wrong? Thank you
Hi Katie. It’s hard for me to know what went wrong. What brands of polish and additives are you using? Did your top coat get a full cure? Did you wipe off the excess additive powder so that there wasn’t loose powder sitting on top of the nail?

You can use any brand of gel polish

Hi,
I use Harmony soak-off polish with cnd additives. I apply the additive to the tacky layer of the cured gel polish. Then I top coat the nail and cure again. ( I am doing a good job a sealing the nail edge.) After curing I wipe off the tacky layer with a lint-free wipe dampened with alcohol. Everything appears to seal properly because the wipe has no additive residue on it. However within a couple of hours the additive pulls away from the nail edge on all fingers.

Hi Chris. You only need a very small amount of powder. If you use too much the top coat may not be able to get a good enough bond to the layer underneath. You can also try using two layers of top coat, sealing the edge.

Hi Andrea! I just looove everything you do! I have one question now :) i haven’t started tp use gelish polish, just ordered all supplies needed. This CND additive.. Does acrylic powder does the same? What actualy is CND additive? Thank you very much!!
Hi Inga. Additives are pigment powders that you can burnish into your gel polish to create effects. You can use fine acrylic powder to do the same thing.
After applying the additives to the tacky layer like say in a gradient wont the gel top coat peel off. I used eye shadow to try the gradient and my top coat just peeled off in a layer. Are the cnd additives made from different material.
I’m not sure if the additives are different. I’ve never tried using eye shadow powders. You do have to apply the powder thinly or the top coat has nothing to adhere to.

Andrea, I sure have missed your posts. One question on the polka dots, you dotted on the top coat over the additives (LOVE THIS). But then once you cleaned the nail, did you top coat the entire polka dotted nail?
