Sunset Beach Nails

Bikini SwatchIn two days I will be soaking up the sun in Siesta Key, Florida! Ahhhhh….

I decided to do my nails in a beach-y theme for my trip. The color inspiration is from my new bikini – a swatch of the design is pictured to the right. It has pink and orange accents, and I decided to gradient these colors to make a sunset look. This mani is actually a blend of regular polish and gel. This is the first time I’ve done a mani this way so I’m curious as to how long it will actually last. I’ll let you know if it holds up.  This design was inspired by this gorgeous mani at Pshiiit.

The first color that I applied is China Glaze “Orange You Hot”.  I added two coats of this on top of my Gelish base.  I let this layer dry for over an hour before applying a thin Gelish top coat and then sponging on the pink, which is Gelish “Gossip Girl”.  The pics don’t actually do this mani justice – it looks way better in person.  And I even polished my toes to match – but I’ll spare you the ugly feet pics.

How well did it hold up?

This manicure lasted several days, but because I used a regular nail polish in between layers of gel polish it started peeling at the tips after about 4-5 days. I ended up going to the salon while on vacation to have them redone.
