Rainbow Foil Nails with Gel Polish
I’ve been wanting to play with nail art transfer foils again for a while. I’ve only used them one other time, you can see that mani here. I had an idea in my head of a rainbow pattern with foils, though it didn’t turn out exactly as I had imagined when I sat down to do it. I still love the way it turned out though – it’s very colorful and fun.
For this mani I prepped as usual and started with two coats of Couture Little Black Dress. After curing the second coat, I took my foils and applied them to the tacky layer of the polish which acted like the glue. If your gel polish isn’t sticky enough to do this you can try applying a very thin coat of foundation gel over your color (cure it) as the glue, or you can use actual foil glue. Once I was happy with my foil application, I applied a layer of top coat over all the nails and cured. Then I applied the square gold studs using my gel foundation as the glue and curing for several seconds, and I top coated over the studs once more. What do you think?
I think it looks awesome! I’ve been tempted to try foils…I’m still confused about them though. Do you cut out what you want to place on your nail or do you rub them on like a transfer?
You just rub them on. I will probably do a short video about foils after I play with them a little more.
Lovely Andrea! Do studs and bits stay on well?
They usually stay pretty well. Sometimes I add another layer of top coat over them after a couple of days – I have a tendency to rub them and wear off the top coat :)
Wow!!! This is so pretty. I super love the color combos and design. Its very unique but classy. I wish I had that talent too of creating beautiful nail arts and designs.
Hi Andrea ! Very nice desing with the colores.
I treated only one time with the foil and didn’t work well, then I discovered that it was necessary to wait a minute before sticking it, but didn’t work either. So I was disillusioned, now I am going to treat with the coat of foundation before applying the foil for make more sticky the layer. I hope that it works. If you do a video it would be great. Regards! Paola
Thank you. I don’t have a video yet, but I will make one when I have some time.
These look amazing. I tied foils a while back and couldn’t get them to stick and gave up. I bought some foil glue but heard it causes service breakdown with gel. But your tip of trying a thin layer of foundation gel could be just the ticket. Maybe I will give them another go
The foundation gel did the trick for me!! I used gelish brand foundation gel, the foil stuck and then I top coated :)
