OPI Studio LED Lamp: Video Demo & Review
The OPI Studio LED Lamp has a lot of great features including:
- Motion sensor that activates the light when you place your hand in the lamp. It also automatically turns off when your hand is removed.
- Four timer settings: 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 seconds and 60 seconds.
- Lightweight & portable.
- Silence / no beeping. This can be a pro or con depending on your personal preference. Many people tell me that beeping noises bother their pets, so if that’s an issue for you this is a good solution.
- Finger guides for perfect placement of your fingers for optimal even curing.
- Removable base for easy cleaning and for pedicure use.
- Long cord.
- 1 year manufacturer’s warranty.
- 67,000 hours of performance.
- 32 LED lights (32 watts).
- Affordable!
The original OPI LED lamp is larger (a bit clunky in my opinion), has some grooves on the back that are hard to clean, and is expensive with a retail price of $400. The new Studio LED Lamp is smaller with a more sleek, lightweight design, and the price point is a lot lower. I found this lamp for sale on Amazon.com for just $134.49. That’s an amazing price for a professional quality lamp!
As you’ll see in the video, I really have nothing but good things to say about this lamp. The finger grooves take a little getting used to, but after using it a couple times you don’t even think about it.
UPDATE 3/15/16: I used this lamp in the salon for a short while, but the finger grooves were very confusing to clients and there were many polish blunders due to bumped nails. Also, it gets VERY hot with repeated use!

OMG!!! The beeping!! So that is why my one dog freaks when I do my nails. I thought maybe it was the smell (which the other dog actually likes. Silly dog.!) or one of my shakers. It all makes sense! I am buying this immediately and not just because it is “beepless.” You are costing me a fortune and I love you!
Two questions. What color are you wearing on you nails? What do you use to hold your phone for the video?
The color on my nails is Madam Glam Stardust. I use an iPhone tripod to hold my camera: http://amzn.to/1MrQIqB :)
Thank you!!! I love your posts and you are my go to girl for gel reviews!
Hey are you going to do swatches for the CND Contradictions Collection? or the Urban Cow Girl collection from Gelish?
I just posted Urban Cowgirl. I’m not sure if I will do the Contradictions collection or not.
What would you recommend, this one or Melodie Susie 48w? Pricing is similar. I need quite portable lamp which works both from 110 and 240v output. Thanks!
The OPI lamp is more portable. It’s very lightweight, where the MS lamp is heavy. This lamp ranges from 100-240 so it should work.
Hi, I am in France in Paris, just find your blog fantastic !
Do you recommend this one or the Harmony Gelish lamp ?
Kisses
It depends on your needs/preferences. I really like both lamps. Gelish has always been my go-to lamp, but this one is great too. It’s lighter and more portable.
Does this lamp cure Gelish polishes?
Thanks,
Caro
Yes
Hi Andrea! Can this cure CND Shellac?
I have cured Shellac with it. It just requires 60 seconds.
Do you know where the sensor is in the lamp? I bought it recently and just tried to put in a stick to swatch a color but the lamp won’t activate.
Hi! I just received my studio light and was surprised by the warmth it gave off similar to a uv light. I was curious to see if yours did the same?
Most of my lamps do give off a warmth.
Oh ok thank you so muchh!! ?
Andrea,
Thanks so much for responding to me yesterday! I have a few more questions for you… I hope you don’t mind I was thinking this lamp may actually be better for me since it’s lighter (and cheaper) than the Gelish 18G, my concern is about the polishes. Does it really matter if I use an OPI lamp with a different brand polish? A lot of people seem to say it does… and I really want to use Gelish polish. I initially wanted the gelish 5-45 but that one only has 45 sec. cure and I think it may be a hassle when doing nail art… plus that one is about $110 which seems like a lot considering all the features this one has for just $20 more… any thoughts? Sorry for all the questions! I will send more people to your blog… promise!
You can use any LED curable product with either lamp. The brands will tell you to use their lamps just because that’s what they’ve tested with and formulated their products to work with.
I bought 2 of these lamps LOVE THEM they cure even the dark gel polish in just 60 sec. But my problem is that one of my lamps has started smoking and smells like rubber after only about a month. Have you heard of this happening before? I am contacting the company I bought it from but was wondering if this is normal or a freak thing?
I’ve never heard of that happening and it definitely doesn’t sound normal! Get a replacement ASAP :)
I just got my lamp in today I was just wondering would o be able to cure uv gel in the lamp or not?
You can only cure LED-curable products, not gel that is UV only.
Does that include like the uv top coats and or the OPI uv builder gels???
No, just the lamp
No I meant, would it cure uv non cleanse top coats or the OPI uv gels?
Read the product label to see if it is LED compatible.
I have a question about Opi led light gl900. Im wondering if anyone is experiencing what im experiencing. I used a brand new opi led light to cure my nails. After i put the top coat i noticed they are not glossy!! Does anyone know why this is? When i use my other led light it is fine but would there be something wrong with the led light? Someone please help me!
