LeChat Lavender Blooms; Mood Color Changing Gel Polish
This was my first time using a LeChat polish and I am very impressed. It had great coverage with just two coats. I love the different color variations, and like that you don’t have to apply it over a base color like Orly Shadeshifter. You can see some of the other LeChat color options here.
Also, if you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen that I sculpted my first nail using Gelish clear builder gel and a nail form. My thumbnail cracked so I repaired and lengthened it. This video on YouTube provides great instructions on how to do this. Below is a picture of the nail that I sculpted. Unfortunately I have already since chipped the corner of the nail. I had a feeling that I applied the gel too thin and I guess I was right. I’m going to keep working at this until I master it though and I’ll share my findings with you. I also applied the builder gel on my other nails as an overlay to give them added strength and protection from all of the polish changing that I do. This gel does NOT soak off – it’s a hard gel that has to be filed off. It actually files down and shapes very easily with a 180 grit file.
I am interested in using the hard gel as added strength, what steps did you follow?
I applied a thin coat of Pro Bond to my nails and then a coat of the hard gel. I applied it just like the Structure Gel. http://www.chickettes.com/how-to-apply-harmony-gelish-structure/
I have the pro bond, did you apply foundation first like with structure or like you instructed above, probond and then hard gel? Sorry I got confused! Also, I know it doesn’t soak off so what do you do when you want to change polish? Thank you for your help!
I didn’t apply the foundation, but I’ve been told that if you use Gelish foundation under the hard gel you can soak it off. I don’t want mine to soak off. I’m hoping it will stay on my nails to act as a protective barrier over my nails since I change my colors so frequently. I haven’t tried soaking off yet, so we’ll see how it goes :)
Oh, also, if you use Foundation gel and want it to be able to soak off, don’t use Pro Bond – use PH bond instead. If you want the hard gel to be more permanent as I do, use just the Pro Bond and hard gel.
Oops, replied to the wrong comment below! So when your nails grow out are you going to soak off the hard gel or try to do a fill? Thanks for your help, please keep us updated on how this wears, works, removes!
I’m not sure yet. If I like how it’s working I’ll probably do a fill. I’m worried that the SOG removal process may take a little longer than normal with it on, but the benefit is that it’s protecting my natural nails. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes :)
just lovely! – nice to see a product that really does what it says it’s going to do – most are half baked!
Thank you so much! So when your nails grow out will you remove the hard gel or try to fill in?
This is the only mood changing polish that I like even though I’m not a fan of the concept……probably because I’m alway cold so the colour would never change on me! :)
I’m usually cold too, but it’s been unseasonably warm the last few days and so my nails have been almost completely white the whole time. :) Today I’m in air conditioning and they have changed colors several times throughout the day. Color changing polishes are fun!
Unlike the first release of LeChat mood gels, this most recent release seems to really shift. I have three of them so far, and I had a very hard time keeping them in constant phases to get pictures. Given, I keep my home a bit cooler than average. :)
I had hot and cold water handy for photographing the shifts ;)
I was wondering why my blog views spiked today! lol Thanks for the tag. :)
You’re welcome! You were my inspiration to buy this polish, so I had to give a shout out! ;)
I love this, the colour is so pretty. Did you use gelish foundation and top it off?
Yes I did :)
How do you change your polish so regularly if you use gel? And how do you do your swatches?
Hi Sarah. I answered that question on my FAQ page. See here: http://www.chickettes.com/sog-gel-polish-faqs/ :)
I absolutely love this gel polish, so much fun! It goes on really smooth and great coverage. I bought two colors and after using one of them, “Twilight Skies”, I bought two more.
Did you use your Gelish LED Lamp for this? If so, how many seconds did it take to cure each coat? I e-mailed LeChat and they couldn’t answer my question regarding the Gelish LED lamp because they wanted me to buy their LED lamp, but I looked and it has poor reviews and definitely do not want to purchase it.
I did use my Gelish LED lamp, and I have cured LeChat polishes in that lamp as well.
I wish you could swatch more of the mood colours. I have about half of them but am hesitant to buy some others because I’m not sure it will look good on me. I also use my Gelish essentials to apply it. I find it works well. The only difference is that the LeChat colours are a little more difficult to remove. I do find they last better though because they’re harder.
Just wondering, do you have to use brand identical base and topcoat with SOG polishes?
I’ve just invested in a 12 watt LED lamp and the gelish mini starter kit, but the polishes are pretty pricey after that initial investment and I was wondering if I can try other gel polishes besides gelish, but still using the gelish under coat and top coat.
Admittedly, the main reason I’m using gel is so I can do gel wraps to help me keep my length, then I can use my lovely indie polishes on top that and just remove it with a non acetone remover as I love to change colours a lot.
But, I also wouldn’t mind trying out the gel colours too as I’ve heard they’re really good for nail art etc.
I’m sorry, I have so many questions, lol.
Hi Emma – you can mix and match brands so you can use your Gelish base and top with other brands of gel polish.
hi Andrea, i was wondering if you had swatched the new gelish colours yet?
I don’t think they are out yet. I will be swatching them soon though.
Andrea,
What color was your Lechat Lavender Blooms in the bottle. I received mine today and it’s purple? I was under the impression it would be white??
@Torie Apply it to your nails and see what happens!
… Magic, it turns white!
Thank you! Cannot wait to try it!
Where do you purchase a DRK-A stamping plate? I love this design and am trying to get brave enough to try stamping!
I think the DRK plates are available at drknails.com
I used the Perfect Match Mood Gel Polish but after applying the base, Polish & top coat I used alcohol to wipe away the tacky top coat. It didn’t leave me with a smooth finish & was rather tacky, could it have been the alcohol?
Can I apply lechat perfect match mood color changing gel polish to my natural nails, and use the Led lamp on them?
Yes – you also need the gel base & top coat.
