Ink Cameo & Chrome Silver
I have a simple mani today… a teal and silver combo. The gorgeous minty teal blue color is Ink Cameo, and the silver accent is Ink Chrome Silver. I’m totally loving Cameo… it has a nice subtle shimmer. I didn’t put a base color under Chrome Silver and you can see a bit of natural nail underneath, but I think the coverage is good enough that it’s not too noticeable.
I hope to be able to do more swatching soon, but this is likely going to be a very busy month for me since my daughter is graduating high school and getting ready to go to Ohio State! We’re having a big party at the house and I have family flying in from a few different places. I’m trying to get some work on my house done AND it’s now gardening season too. So there’s just a lot going on! I’m hoping to make it up to you by having a few guest posts from some other talented ladies.

I just recently bought this and used it last night. I’m very disappointed in your site. I wish you wouldn’t color correct your photos. The polish I have on my nails are not the same color as this. I used 4 thin coats and it’s a mint sea green with slight shimmer. No blue in sight. This swatch is very misleading. I bought this polish because you claimed it to be a ‘minty teal blue’ all I get is mint. I’m sorry I’m being rude but if you do touch up the shades you should list it in the post. Not sure if I can use your site of swatches as a referrence anymore.
I don’t color correct my photos and I use day light bulbs to try to get the most accurate colors possible. My Ink Cameo looks like the color in the picture.
Sunshine hit this one right on the head. Ink colors are super pigmented and tend to settle. When I have a bottle that doesn’t look like I believe it should, I shake the devil out of it and store it upside down for a bit. I’ve found most correct by doing that.
As for Cameo, I have it. I would say it has a tinge more mint to it than Andrea’s picture shows on my monitor, but it is blue based. Andrea’s description of “a minty teal blue” is pretty accurate, I think. You could also call it a green leaning pastel teal (if there was such a thing). Lighting plays a huge part in how colors look. Andrea shoots her photos in a light box that simulates daylight. I shoot mine in a similar setup. But there are still limitations to every camera. Greens, especially, are very difficult to pick up correctly. And shimmers don’t pop like they do under a non-diffused light source, so the effect of the shimmer might be lost a little too. But looking at my swatch and Andrea’s pictures, the difference is very, very subtle.
Also, as Pam mentioned below, there are batch differences. Polish makers try to keep their formula’s accurate, but it doesn’t always happen. For example, I recently bought a bottle of Ink Blackout. It should be a highly pigmented, pure black. My bottle has scattered shimmer. It was a batch error. Shame too. I really like the shimmer version. ;)

Andrea this is a gorgeous swatch (AS ALWAYS!). I have this exact same color and it is really close to the swatch you posted. Sunshine makes a few really great points. I think skin tone makes a huge difference when it comes to these colors and also variation in computer monitor. I’d like to add that there is always a chance of batch difference. One bottle may be older and they’ve tweaked the color so the newer bottles are slightly different. This is by far one of my favorite Ink colors :)
Thanks for the feedback, ladies. I had to pull out my Ink Cameo when I got home from work to double-check it. It does look more minty in certain lighting, but it’s not terribly different from the photo. I apologize if you felt my photo was misleading. I always try to get the most color accurate photos and I don’t adjust the color. Normally if I feel the photo is misleading I will make a comment to that effect. My lightbox often washes out the shimmer effects too, especially if they are subtle.
I can see why someone would think it’s greener in person, I see more of the green than the blue, but when I’ve worn it my husband insists it’s light blue with zero green.
Personally I find polishes with green in them, or hot pink, are super hard to capture on camera, and I’m always impressed with the swatches I find here and how accurate they are.
People need to keep in mind monitor differences. Also, NEVER bitch out a blogger because you don’t like their swatch. Complain to a company if you don’t like the swatches on THEIR website, but not a blogger who is not representing the company. My opinion still stands. Yes it seems rude. Yes it’s look down upon, but the shine in most nail swatch pictures are almost identical to each other.
To Sunshine. I tried this mani a second time taking all of your advice, and giving the bottle a really good shake. Still mint green. I also went and checked this swatch on a bunch of different monitors – helps going to a university with thousands of computers to use. Chickettes swatch still remained Sky Minty Blue.
Cynna – My point still stands that this color has been altered. I looked once again on several different monitors at my university her swatch shows up blue. The link that you provided shows up mint. Not a bitch out, but a request for non touched up or any sort of altered photos. As I look at Chickettes swatches light shines in identical positions. Statics proves that it’s impossible to get the same exact hand positioning in each photo right every time to produce that same light streak. I asked a digital arts student in one of my gen-ed class she thought some pictures were edited.
No this post wasn’t a bitch out. Just explaining my opinion on how this swatch is done. This is also a request for non altered photos. If it came off as rude I’m sorry, but after closer inspection of swatches my brand/blogger trust was altered. I don’t mean to sound rude or offend, but I felt tricked and lied to. I look at other blogs to see what others have to say about products before I personally buy them. In the same fashion I’d ask my best friend for an opinion. When a color doesn’t match up to a picture AND a written description trust is lost, and hurt feelings come into play.
I’m very sorry you feel that way. The only type of editing I do is cropping the photos down so that they are a consistent size and I may blur out a fleck of glitter or polish on my finger or an ugly hangnail, but I don’t alter the colors. I’m not sure what purpose there would be in that. I’m not being paid to say anything about the polishes I swatch, everything I write is my own opinion and experience. This particular color was a gift from a friend, and my color does look more teal than mint. My photos are almost all taken in a lightbox… it provides soft light and is how I get the lighting and hand positions to be consistent. I can be a bit of a perfectionist and I take pride in the quality of my photos. Many people people tell me that my swatches are extremely accurate and they find them very helpful. I guess I can’t please everyone.

Hi Chelsea – I didn’t experience any wrinkling with mine. Perhaps you can try adding a few drops of gel polish thinner to yours. That usually helps a great deal with gel polishes that wrinkle. I think Ink makes their own brand of thinner, and I use one called LaRosa from Esther’s Nail Center.

Not to be mean…but “Beauty on a College Budget” might be exaggerating a tad bit. [Link Removed] seems to be her blog and it’s extremely hard to believe that her “manicure” is 3 coats, and then she tells you it’s actually 4 coats? I wouldn’t feel bad Andrea! Like you said you can’t please everyone and some people just don’t want to be pleased anyway. I’ve found your swatches VERY helpful with deciding which Gelish colors I want to purchase.
Thanks Anna. I removed the link from your comment, but I did check it out. I find it hard to believe that it was 3 or 4 coats because this polish is very pigmented and not sheer at all. I’m not gonna lose any sleep over it that’s for sure ;)
