Ibd Smokey Plum with Stripes
I tried a new SOG polish today by Ibd called Smokey Plum. It’s a great color for fall. Of course after a few hours of applying my polish, I couldn’t help myself and had to jazz them up a little. I added a stripe of holographic polish by Color Club called Fashion Addict and then used pink striping tape for clean, crisp lines. I topped it off with my Gelish top coat.
Here is the Smokey Plum before I added the stripes. It looks a a little more purple in the day light.
These are really pretty. I saw them on Pinterest and had to come check out your blog…though I would’ve seen your blog later this evening anyway when I went through to look at all the entries on November Polish Days! Only a quick glance through shows me that I’m going to enjoy reading it in the future. Yay for more pretty nail art to inspire! :)

Hey! I’m new to the world of Gelish and new to your blog (these two things go together!) and I love it. I love your art, I love your posts, you’re fantastic.
I have a question that I’m having trouble finding a clear answer to with googling, but I’m betting you have a good answer for me. I have a few bottles of regular nail polish that I’d like to not say farewell to when I start going crazy with Gelish. (I’m trying to limit myself to a bottle a month!) In this post you say that you used regular nail polish with the Gelish top coat. Did you do any other prep like the Gelish foundation? Or did you just do the regular polish, Gelish top coat, and cure?
Also, have you tried any of the other gel polishes (like OPI) in conjunction with the rest of the Gelish system? How did that work?

Hi Gwen, I often use regular nail polish for art on top of Gelish and I do topcoat it with the Gelish top coat and that works well. You can use regular nail polish in between your base and top coats, but generally it doesn’t last more than 5-7 days before chipping and peeling begins. You should allow the regular polish some time to dry before adding the top coat or your nails will get messed up when you wipe the tacky layer off. Ibd and Daisy are the only other SOG brands I have tried so far and both worked fine with the Gelish base and top coat. Good luck with your Gelish adventures! Love your site and this mani in particular. Could you tell me how long the striping tape lasted? I’ve tried it before and gotten 2-3 days max, and that’s using a gel top coat over it.

The striping tape didn’t last very long. It started to lift on the edges after just a day or two, also with a gel top coat.
