IBD Indian Sari & Road to Paris Swatches

I just purchased these two IBD Just Gel Polishes.  One of my readers asked if I knew of a gel polish that was similar to Julep Joan (see my swatch here), which is a shimmery cranberry color.  I couldn’t think of one, but I asked some SOG addict friends and got some suggestions… many said IBD Indian Sari is close.  Well, I was curious so I purchased it as well as Road to Paris since it also seemed to possibly fit the bill.

Indian Sari is gorgeous and has a really nice shimmer, but it’s definitely more purple than I anticipated.  Below are some pictures of Indian Sari taken in my lightbox.  The lighbox tends to make polishes look a little more matte than they actually are, so I also took a shot under the OttLite to show off the shimmer and gloss a little better.

Road to Paris is also a shimmery purple, but it’s more sheer and more on the pink side.  Actually after looking at Indian Sari this looks very pink, but if I put it next to my pinks, it looks purple… so I guess it’s a hybrid!  It also has a gorgeous shine, but I forgot to get a picture under the OttLite.  This is also not the cranberry color I was looking for though, so the hunt for cranberry continues!

I am really starting to like the IBD brand.  All of the colors that I’ve tried so far have been beautiful, they applied and soaked off well, last as long as other brands, and they’re half the cost!

I just wanted to say thanks for all of your swatches and info on gel polishes. It is really helpful when you are just starting out and trying to choose polishes to order, etc. Your pictures are so nice, all of the polish companies should be sending you polishes to review! :-)

I’m going to order Ink Calypso (from your pictures) and was thinking about getting IBD Meteorite and/or Gelish Favorite Accessory, but don’t know if they are too similiar. If you have time, could you tell me which is better or if they are too close? Thanks!!

Thank you, Jeanette! I would go for Meteorite over My Favorite Accessory… it’s a little darker and has a beautiful shimmer :)

Thanks Andrea! I’ll get meteorite. BTW, I just got stuck over at the Glam and Glits site! Wow, they have alot of great colors, too. Thanks for the help and inspiration. :-)

Can you use Gelish base/top coat with the IBD gel polishes, or do I need the IBD specific ones? Do you notice any shrinkage with IBD? I’m loving your latest swatches (IBD) and thinking of branching out from my beloved Gelish!

You can definitely use the Gelish base/top with IBD. I didn’t have any shrinkage issues with these – they are very nice quality. And for the price, I highly recommend trying this brand! :)

Thanks so much for posting these – I got my Road to Paris (ordered because of this post!) yesterday and tried it. Love! :) planning to order more ibd polishes after trying this one.

I am wondering though – do you even use an undercolor to eliminate the nail line? If so what color would you recommend that would least alter the color of the top polish? I have a few “bruises” in my nails (those white spots in the nail) that are showing through.

Thanks again for the swatch work and input – it’s great to try new polishes but still feel like you’ll get a good result because someone who knows has tried it first :)

Hi Jennifer. Yes, using an opaque base color will help reduce the visible nail line. I like to use white for light and bright colors, and black for dark colors, or you could play with some color bases to create some new shades :)

  5. Great swatches. Indian Sari is one of my top five colours. I have Road To Paris also. If you layer Road To Paris over Indian Sari you’ll get very close to the Julep colour you were aiming for, Road To Paris mutes some of the purple and leaves a lovely golden shimmer. Very pretty combo.

I wonder if Couture’s Cranberry Cosmo #50 is an actual cranberry!
