Gelish Swatch Do-Overs: Starburst & Cashmere Kind of Gal

How about a couple of do-overs for the new year?!  When I started swatching Gelish almost 3 years ago I had a highly filtered lighting setup which made the polishes appear to have a matte finish.  We all know that gel polish is super shiny, so that just wasn’t cutting it.  Seven or eight months ago I added a direct light to the setup and changed the way the photos are cropped, and now you can see that high-gloss shine. Some days when I look at my Gelish swatch gallery I wish I could go back and do them all over again… but then I remember how long it took. LOL  These two colors aren’t new, but I thought they deserved a do-over since they each had a strange 3-finger pose previously. Who knows, maybe over time I’ll re-do some of the other swatches too.

Starburst was one of the very first gel polish colors that I purchased.  I started off with about 10 colors, and wore this one frequently.  I haven’t used it in a long time and had forgotten how pretty it is!  It’s a medium-to-dark purple with a shimmer finish and is opaque in 2-3 coats.

Tip:  Gel polish thinner is great for thinning out polishes with thicker formulas like this one, or to restore older gel polishes that have thickened.  The shelf life of gel polish is said to be 18-24 months, but I have many polishes in my stash that are much older and are still in great condition.  Store the bottles out of direct sunlight, in a moderate temperature (avoid extreme hot or cold temps), and thin them if needed and they should last a good long while!

Starburst and Berry Buttoned Up look like they are a very similar color with Berry Buttoned Up maybe having a bit more glitter in the formula. Is that correct? I happen to own both and was trying to figure this out myself last night without the benefit of a swatch so what a timely post for me. Thanks Andrea!

the thinner says for UV gels…what about LED gels or UV/LED gels? Thanks :) I had received a new bottle of Gelish foudation which is so unusable because it came very thick, so had to go buy another brand, which works fine…

I had been wondering about this. If I am going to invest in a collection, it needs to last! It is no fun to open a bottle and have it not be the same! Starburst still looks lovely. :)

  5. Love Starburst!! I got it bought for me for Christmas and I only swatches it on a colour pop so far but it’s a gorgeous colour

I purchased Starburst because of the swatch you previously posted on your site Andrea. It must have been the old swatch, but apparently it looked beautiful to me then and it still does now. :-) I’m looking forward to trying Starburst as soon as spring gets here (which can’t be too soon in my opinion … brrrr!)
