Gelish Supply List – What You Need to Get Started
A lot of people ask me what supplies they need to purchase in order to do their own Gelish manicures from home, so here is a quick breakdown of what you’ll need to get started.
Application Supplies:
- UV or LED Nail Lamp – (please read this article about nail lamps to help determine the best solution for you)
- Nail file and clippers
- Block nail buffer
- Orange sticks or a cuticle pusher
- Gelish Nail Cleanser* and lint-free wipes OR sterile alcohol wipes (the alcohol wipes are my preference)
- Gelish PH Nail Bond*
- Gelish Foundation Base Gel (base coat)*
- Gelish Top It Off (top coat)*
- Gelish color polish of your choice
Removal Supplies:
- Gelish Nail Remover* OR 100% Pure acetone
(I use the latter – it’s cheaper) - Aluminum foil
- Cotton balls
- Coarse nail file
- Orange sticks
* These items can be purchased individually or in the Gelish Basix Kit (there’s also a full size version here). I bought the full size bottles, but a little goes a long way with Gelish so the kit is a good value.
If you were to purchase all of the items above, your total should come to about $150 (more if you purchase several color polishes up front). If you think about it, that’s the equivalent of 4 manicures at the salon! You can get dozens of manicures at that price by doing your own nails at home.
Have you had to replace the bulbs in your UV lamp yet? If so, I was wondering where you found replacements…
No, I haven’t had to change them yet (knock on wood!!). I just did a quick Google search and found them listed on several sites including Amazon.com.

Hi i am new to these kinds of products and i was wondering what goes with the UV gel…..by goes with i mean the purple liquid that most people use with the UV gel
I’m not sure what purple liquid you are referring to. Perhaps it’s an alcohol-based nail cleanser?
The purple liquid is for acrylics x (If you are not talking about that, if not then your probs talking about the sticky layer remover??
Hi I’ve just come across you online, what an awesome thing you are doing spending your time & knowledge helping others! :) I was just wondering if you could please help me? Is there one gel polish top & base coat you would recommend that I can use with all the different brands of coloured gel polishes or do I need to buy a top & base coat from each brand that I purchase a color from? I’ve used CND shellac in the past with Gelish & that worked fine, I’m quite keen to try some of the other brands you’ve mentioned though & obviously it’s preferable for me financially if I can just get the one lot of base & too coats :) Many thanks Nati
I have found the Gelish base/top combo to work with all brands and it seems to be the longest lasting on the majority of nail types. :)

Hi Mia – it sounds like you are a young entrepreneur! I can’t advise you whether to start your own summer business, but I can tell you that it’s not legal do provide nail services without a license and you also have to work within a licensed facility.
