Gelish Matte/Glossy Chevron

I wanted to play a little with the new Gelish Matte Top It Off and I decided to try a chevron pattern that’s matte & glossy. The ring finger has two coats of Gelish Black Shadow topped with the Matte Top It Off. I wiped off the tacky layer and applied two chevron stickers over the matte finish, and applied a thin coat of regular Gelish Top It Off. I flash cured the TIO, pulled off the stickers, and then finished curing.

My middle finger and thumb have two coats of Artic Freeze and were stamped with Bundle Monster Plate BM414 and Konad black polish. They are also topped off with the Matte TIO.  (The new Bundle Monster Create Your Own Collection has some really amazing designs – these designs were created and submitted by nail art fans.  The set includes many popular designs such as chevrons, drips, and tribal patterns.)  My index finger has three coats of Gelish Shake Your Money Maker, and the pinky has three coats of Gelish Showstopping and both are topped with the regular TIO.

The Gelish Matte TIO takes on the matte finish after wiping the tacky layer off, but I found that if you apply oil or moisturizer to your hands the finish is more satiny. If you just cleanse the nail with alcohol again it will look matte again.

I just recently got the matte top it off and I’ve been having trouble getting it to work. Any suggestions or am I maybe just expecting too much?

I’m not really sure what you mean, but I assume you mean it’s not as matte as you imagined? In my experience with matte top coats they will get shiny over time because of oils from your hands or lotions, etc. If my matte top coat looks too shiny I just cleanse it with alcohol to remove the oils. Once the alcohol dries it looks matte again.
