Daisy Duo Gel Polish Swatches
I have a few Daisy gel polish swatches today. These Daisy Duo sets come with a gel polish and a matching regular nail polish (RNP), and they can be purchased at Esther’s Nail Center. I selected three colors that I thought would be fun for spring, which is wishful thinking since we’re currently buried under a foot or more of snow here! I gave all of the colors a really good shake with my Robart before applying them. These aren’t brand new shades in the Daisy line, so I wanted to make sure they were well mixed. This is always a good idea for the best application results.
First Impression is a very pale lavender shade. I applied three coats in this swatch because it still seemed a little spotty after two coats. This color didn’t match up completely with the accompanying RNP – it’s more pale in comparison. The RNP version has more of a lavender tone, which I like a little better and was hoping for with the gel. It’s still a lovely shade though.
Fiery Flamingo is a really medium-to-dark pink shade. This one is really fun for summer, and I love the name… it’s very suiting. It seemed a little thick and could have benefited from a couple drops of gel polish thinner to make the consistency a little smoother. This is also three coats.
Fuchsia Star is a dense glitter polish in a clear base. This swatch is only two coats. I was surprised at how great the coverage was because I have previously swatched some similar Daisy glitter gels and didn’t get much glitter out of the bottle. I think they probably needed a really good shake like this one got. The base was a little thick, but that helps with getting consistent glitter coverage on the nail. I love the color mix in the glitter – it’s primarily pink, but you can see little pops of blue and some holo glitters. It’s very sparkly in person!
This is just a quick side-by-side shot of the swatch sticks that compares the gel polish colors to the accompanying regular nail polish shades. The top two are pretty close, but the lavender shade is a bit off as I mentioned.

what gel polish thinner do you use? I have a couple gels that have thickened for some reason

Hi Just want to give you an update that LaRosa Gel Polish Thinner is discontinued since the manufacturer has closed down. So we have something similar which is from LeChat. It’s Gelos Gel Thinner. Check it out at our website http://www.esthersnc.com
I just checked those out and the description says that no base coat needed. Is it how you applied them?
Yes, the newer Daisy gel polishes are two-step gels that don’t require a base. They do sell an optional base if you require or prefer one.
I’m not sure how I would live without my shaker now. :). If a polish has been sitting for a year or so, two trips through the shaker makes it look new. :)
Do you have a favorite matte coat you like to use? How long does a matte coat last for you?
I have only used Gelish and Pink Gellac. Usually matte top coats will start to get shiny pretty quickly if you touch them a lot. The oils from your fingers transfer onto the nails making them look more satin than matte. If you periodically wipe the top coat with alcohol or cleanser it should go back to looking matte.
I had read on an earlier post that you use a peel-off base when doing your swatches. What base do you use?
hmmmm…..kinda confused over here. Thinking if will try or not…..
So after buying many polished you’ve recommended, I think I think I need to start the swatch thing. On the swatches, do you apply the base, polish and top coat? Or do you apply the polish on the concave side? Thanks for the help!
